A beautiful Leaf

   is dying today

Now Rustic
  and Dry

       It lays

Delicately balanced

In it’s resting place

      It quietly

            Cries

 GENESIS

This painting was inspired by my first sojourn into the jungle behind the resort. For those who have experienced the wonder of the ‘chaotic’ and pristine environment of the rainforest (jungle), you are faced with a cacophony of sound from the inhabitants of the jungle, which is an almost hypnotic rhythm and can quickly put one in a heightened sense of awareness
I remember being transfixed when I came across this awe inspiring scene of nature, and feeling a great sense of truly witnessing nature’s life cycle. The visual beauty of witnessing the living ., the dying and the dead which in turn gives new life to the living, the dying, and the dead…….. a very spiritual understanding took place and will remain with me. This painting is the first in a series of Sarawak jungle paintings which will be completed throughout 2009. Currently the painting is on show at the ‘Royal Mulu Resort’.

'Muddy Waters'

Basking in the
sun

Singing it’s golden song

       To anyone

Whose perceives

not the muddy surface

   but the beauty
     within

                                                                                                 On Reflection

'On Reflection' has been inspired by a small clearing on our jungle walk going toward (Lagan) cave which is yet to open to the public. The muddy waters and the way in which the sun was creating a blaze of colour, just had to be painted. From an artist’s point of view, the National Park and Heritage area is a smorgasbord of natural beauty and just begs to be appreciated and captured on canvas. The Mulu World Heritage Art Foundation has been formed to be the vehicle which will ensure that artists worldwide are made aware of this spectacular part of the world, and can be invited to participate in art forums at Mulu, and the ‘Foundation’ events which will be organized at other World Heritage Sites internationally.

In quietude

In COOL dark splendor

The cave develops its wondrous form

Drip, Drop, Drip, Drop

Minute by minute

Hour by hour

Eon by Eon

The life of the cave

Stalagtite and stalagmite

Takes on new form …….

Unlike the rhythm of the Jungle …… the cave

Constantly evolves

And Never dies.

Karst in Stone

This work of art was inspired by the amazing stalactite and stalagmite forms within the smaller but exciting ‘Lagan’ cave in the National Park at Mulu. We had a very special visit to this cave which had it’s walkway still under construction. It was a great privilege to ‘explore’ this virgin territory, and although there were so many areas within the cave that had beautiful form, we found the above a source of inspiration to create an ‘Iconic’ Art work. This work is also on display at the resort.
