Minister of Tourism visits Royal Mulu Resort

WILSON and a few of the resort staff waiting to welcome the minister and distinguished guests to the resort.

The minister for tourism Datuk Michael Manyin, and an entourage of in excess of fifty visitors from tour operators to executive staff, CEO of Maswings, press and television from Korea, Japan, Australia, China, United States and the UK, visited the resort on the 15th September to officially launch the MASwings new Direct Flights from Kuching to Mulu. These direct flights (3 each week), undoubtedly will increase tourist traffic to the resort.

Royal Chamber at the resort. In the background can be seen the painting ‘Iconic Sarawak’ veiled and ready to be presented to the minister. The Minister gave the Keynote address on tourism, and stated appreciation for the potential that MASwings direct flight initiative will create by giving easier access to Mulu for many tourists. During the launch there was the opportunity for WILSON to present the minister with the artwork that he had been commissioned to paint. The masterpiece was unveiled and presented to the minister. The work is called ‘Iconic Sarawak’ and is to be used as a backdrop when the minister is promoting Sarawak to potential international tourists.

Wilson and Dato Robert Geneid un-veiled the painting and it was then presented to the minister. Wilson was then asked by Dato Robert to explain to the minister the concept behind the painting
and how it could be effectively used as a backdrop which would assist the minister in giving his international audiences an appreciation of the natural beauty and the very diverse cultural heritage of Sarawak. WILSON's hope is that the work will fulfill it's main purpose, and will assist in the promotion of Sarawak.

Dato Robert Geneid and Wilson unveil 'Iconic Sarawak'
The minister appeared to be very pleased with the painting. Being a quality oil painting on canvas, eight feet (8’) by four (4’) feet, Wilson has created a diptych so that the work can be transported by air and accompany the minister on his international promotional Tours. WILSON was pleased for the opportunity to create the work and is ever thankful to Dato Robert for the invite to be ‘artist in residence’ in such a tranquil and beautiful part of
the world. Aside from wielding his paintbrush, WILSON also has been very busy artistically contributing further to the promotion and marketing of the Royal Mulu Resort through graphic design work on his laptop.

Currently working to finish a series of three (3) paintings ……. With a variety of leaves that are very much part of this wonderful rainforest in Mulu.

   Who Stole My Banana?

       You're USELESS!!

WILSON has found
that the Proboscis monkeys have such interesting features that he must make the effort to create a few pieces of artwork that may capture their unique
proboscis profiles and God's sense of humour.

There have been many comments from the guests who visit the Royal Mulu Resort with regards to our friends in this painting ..... it is destined to be an Iconic Classic

Following these paintings WILSON has stated that he will begin to paint a new series of work that will be vibrant and will further capture the spirit of Sarawak. Indeed, at time of writing (October 5, 2009)  his intention for the next phase of work is to paint the very spiritual essence and nature of its people, and to capture the naturally rich and colourful power of the rainforest. Nature unleashing it's power has always fascinated WILSON, and to capture the majesty of a thunderstorm quenching the thirst of the rich vegetation, and indeed the eco-system of the rainforest, is a healthy  artistic challenge, and one which WILSON is looking to capture in one of his upcoming works.

As an artist who has gained international recognition, WILSON looks forward to his paintings
(his children) being given a new home, and appreciated by their new and satisfied owners. Art is
such a giving medium, and still recognized as one of the world’s best investments.
