HORNBILL TOURISM AWARDS
KUCHING, SARAWAK

Every two years the Sarawak Tourism Board and key Malaysian organisations within the Tourism Industry come together for an ‘awards’ evening where various tourism operators, hoteliers, restaurants, resorts, national parks, airlines etc; are recognized for their excellence and contribution to the Tourism Industry in Sarawak.

Being a formal occasion WILSON entered the AWARDS wearing his ‘renowned’ flying hat. We must say that the hat does attract some attention and curiosity as to why WILSON wears this type of headgear to formal and/or when meeting with important people within society. It had been noted when WILSON first arrived and held his first Malaysian press conference in Miri that his fur lined hat was possibly more suited to a visit to Iceland. We do not mean any insult by this remark, but remain curious as to why he would wear such a warm hat in Malaysia.

WILSON enjoyed meeting with many of the people who help to promote and encourage tourism in  Malaysia, and is seen in this photograph with a new found acquaintance John, (who is a columnist for the Borneo Post), and on his right, Monica Robinson from the Royal Mulu Resort.

Because this photograph is important to WILSON he put on his ‘BIGGLES’ hat to signify respect to the other guests at the table.

In the photograph on the right, we can see WILSON discussing with (John) an independent  writer for the Borneo Post, the significance of the ‘BIGGLES’ hat, and the reasons that

he has worn this headgear on many formal and important occasions.  This was a wonderful evening where WILSON enjoyed meeting with various dignatories, and was especially honoured to be introduced and talk with the Chief Minister of Sarawak Yab Pahin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Being a connoisseur of fine food, WILSON was very impressed with the many dishes which were served throughout the evening, and the traditional cultural Sarawak music which was provided as part of the entertainment for the evening.
This was an important occasion which highlighted the continued need for excellence throughout the Tourism Industry, and WILSON was very aware of how important it is that MULU be presented in it’s best light globally, for the pristine and natural rainforest experience that is second to none.
