ART FOUNDATION LAUNCH

MULU WORLD HERITAGE ART FOUNDATION.

Following  the special visit to the caves, Dato Robert Geneid, Alan Robinson and WILSON held a meeting to further discuss the exciting opportunities that lay ahead as we developed  plans to promote MULU and the National Park.

Due to our global vision and the desire that we each held to more effectively promote the unique Mulu tourist opportunity through nature and the arts, the ‘MULU WORLD HERITAGE ART FOUNDATION’ was born. As a first initiative we decided, under the banner of the Foundation, to organize an Art Competition for the local primary and secondary schools in Mulu and Miri. The school entries were judged on the 7th March at the Betang Mega Mall by WILSON, and with the various sponsors who had contributed to the success of this community event, the MULU WORLD HERITAGE ART FOUNDATION was formally launched.

The VIP’s in attendance were left to right,

Mr Lawrence Lai Yew Son, Mayor of Miri,

Dato Ose Murang a Miri resident,

Dato Robert Geneid, Foundation Patron

Datuk Michael Manyin, Minister of Urban Development and Tourism Sarawak,

Dato Lau Siu Wai, Owner of the Betang Mega Mall and a number of other invited guests.

After the formal speeches by the owner of the Mega Mall Dato Lau Siu Wai, The Minister Datuk Michael Manyin, and Dato Robert Geneid,  the logo for the  ‘MULU WORLD HERITAGE ART FOUNDATION’ was unveiled by the Minister of Tourism, and WILSON’s painting ‘Hornbill Rising’ was unveiled by Dato Robert Geneid.

THE ACTION PAINTING PERFORMANCE

The event then continued with a 10 minute abstract action painting by ‘WILSON the Escape Artist’ who entered the stage suitably dressed in Bright red overalls, his formal ‘Biggles’ hat, sporting a WILSON glove on his left hand, and his WILSON bag in his right hand.

After acknowledging the VIP’s he removed his ‘BIGGLES’ hat and donned his well known ‘Tartan’ hat. WILSON then launched into his action painting.

This piece of art that was totally spontaneous and when finished, WILSON gave an understanding of the creative process experienced through the energy of this performance. Following this the winners of the School Art Competition were acknowledged and received their well deserved prizes.

The jewel in the crown was when the event had finished, WILSON was called to speak with the Minister of Tourism and Dato Robert and received a commission to create a large painting which would effectively depict the icons of MULU and it’s colourful tribal cultures.

This painting would accompany the Minister on his overseas travels as he enthusiastically promotes MULU and Sarawak to the world. All in all, the launch of the Foundation went extremely well.

There was an excellent response for the School Art Competition which was judged by WILSON and the
Winning Entry in each Catergory received a very worthwhile recognition, by Trophy, Certificates and additional prize of a stay for two (2) at the Royal Mulu Resort, and also being able to take advantage of the Gunu Mulu National Park activities. Our sincere thanks were expressed to all the sponsors who contributed to the success of the event. This will be followed by a similar event in Kuching which will be organised by the Foundation and working closely with major sponsors such as the Hilton Hotel.
